OAKMONT (KDKA) — Overnight, a car hopped the curb, crashing head-first into a well-known local business.
It was a chaotic scene overnight as the walls came crashing in on Oakmont Bakery.
Three employees were working and just narrowly escaped danger.
A staple of the community — the unexpected struck Oakmont Bakery overnight.

“Our manager said that the roof fell in the bakery, and we’re like it’s a brand-new building, the roof couldn’t have fallen in,” said Marc Serrao, the owner of Oakmont Bakery. “By the time we got here, we realized a roof had fallen in the side of the building.”
That car was a silver SUV, the owner told KDKA they looked at traffic cameras and saw the SUV came speeding down this road — hopped the curb — ran over trees and ended up head-first inside of the kitchen.
“It caused a lot of damage to our equipment,” he said. “It’s right in the oven room where it happened.”

He said he is grateful that it missed the three workers in the back.
“It seems impossible, a total miracle the guys didn’t get hurt. There were actually three people right in the exact area where the SUV came through the wall and all of our ovens and fryers flew across the room and somehow it missed them,” Serrao said.
Although the employees got lucky, at least one person was injured — as someone inside of the vehicle was taken to the hospital.
As for the bakery’s recovery — the doors are still open — but some of their bread-and-butter menu items will be off the list for the foreseeable future.
“Donuts, bagels, Paczki’s maybe. We may have bagels tomorrow, it just depends.”
If you’re worried that your Valentine’s Day or wedding cake was destroyed — you’re in the clear — Serrao said the wreck didn’t touch that part of the kitchen.
